BALANCE
Competitive Dota 2 thrives when the playing field is balanced. Standard open brackets often result in predictable outcomes where the same elite stacks dominate. To counter this, DotaBD supports Points-Capped Leagues—a system that forces elite players to team up with rising talents. By assigning point values to players based on their ranks, leagues cap a team's total MMR. This drives mentorship and ensures a dynamic, exciting tournament where every match matters. Additionally, organizers can specify individual MMR caps and medal tier limits to target specific player brackets.
Every league progresses through three primary operational states, which dictate what actions participants and admins can take: - upcoming: The preparation and registration phase. Team captains can register rosters and submit payments, while admins adjust rules and MMR constraints. - ongoing: The tournament bracket is live. Rosters are locked, and no player additions are allowed except for substitutes. Match tracking is active. - finished: The league has concluded. Standings and statistics are archived on the public dashboard.

MATCH TRACKING
Manual score entry is a relic of the past. DotaBD integrates directly with the game client using the official tournament ticket ID. Once the ticket is linked to the league, the system automatically fetches and records matches in real-time. Discovered matches are populated with complete player stats (kills, deaths, assists, net worth, hero picks, item builds, and support stats), instantly updating player profiles with live analytics.
But what if the ticket is approved late? DotaBD features Retroactive Match Linking. As soon as the ticket ID is entered in the settings, the platform automatically scans past matches, identifies the ones matching the ticket, and links them to the league, immediately updating standings, group tables, and player rankings in real-time. This saves hours of manual data entry and preserves every game played. Players can immediately check their progress on their profile pages and see detailed match-by-match breakdowns.
